'Not Responding' message in AR

Client is using SL7.0FP1. Last Thursday, they started getting an error that the AR Invoice/Memo and Payment Application screens were not responding when they tried to complete a batch. We've tried both Saving the batch in a Balanced state and in a Release Now state. Both return the Not Responding message. I get the same message when attempting to release/save these batches at the server.

We've rebooted the server and the workstations with no success. I know that they're behind on their upgrade (SL2015 is on their schedule for next month.) 

Any suggestions on what to try?
